Kassel Reloaded: A Manifestation for Urban Acupuncture

TRANSFORM FRAGMENTED COMMUNITIES AND UNDERUSED SPACES INTO COHESIVE, VIBRANT HUBS OF CULTURAL ACTIVITY, CREATIVITY, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Research Fellows

Fellowship Outcomes

During their fellowship at Kassel University, the fellows successfully developed an urban acupuncture strategy for several predefined case studies, including the Olof-Palme-Haus, the historical U-Bahn Station, the Main Train Station, and the former Möbel Salomon, among others. Initially, the plan was to split the fellows into two groups, each focusing on one additional case study alongside the main case study, Olof-Palme-Haus. However, after extensive discussions, the fellows decided to collaborate as a single group to create a comprehensive strategy for urban acupuncture in Kassel.

This strategy revolves around designing a Dynamic Modular Toolkit aimed at activating underused and in-between urban spaces. The fellows constructed a full-scale 1:1 physical model, which was showcased and utilized during the "Olof-Palme-Haus Festival" for public engagement and feedback.
