Unlocking the Potential: Exploring Urban Acupuncture in Egypt's Urban Development

Fellowship Outcomes

The fellowship’s main topic is about Urban Acupuncture Principles in the context of Egypt’s urban development. Urban Acupuncture, initially introduced in 1983, is a comprehensive approach that utilizes data collection, analysis, and design to provide swift spatial solutions for everyday urban challenges in small urban spaces.

In Egypt, it is crucial to apply the principles of Urban Acupuncture to reassess the effectiveness of regeneration projects and their integration into urban planning strategies. Unfortunately, the lack of active community participation has often resulted in passive implementation of transient and cost-effective measures, limiting their impact on comprehensive urban strategies. To address these issues, a meaningful and sustainable approach to urban development in Egypt can be facilitated by employing the principles of Urban Acupuncture.

This fellowship offered a unique opportunity for young researchers to delve into the principles of Urban Acupuncture, apply them to a real-life case study, and contribute to the sustainable urban development of Alexandria. By combining theory with practical implementation, the fellows will gain valuable hands-on experience and contribute to the advancement of urban planning strategies in Egypt.
